Korean Folk Village
Before the family goes home, Mom wanted to see a famous traditional Korean village near our home. So, all of the family (except myself - I had a history class to teach) spent Wednesday afternoon, my mom's birthday, at the village. Break dancing - traditional Korean style How do people learn these things? These birds are some of the only wildlife you'll ever see in Korea (at least, where we live). Although, there are some pretty exciting creatures in the nearest grocery store...
Angie and Julie enjoyed trotting on the horses This cannot possibly be comfortable... Every village has to have its kimchi! Someone forgot to run their English by a native speaker. The English is actually a direct translation from the Korean which helps explain one of the reasons Korean is so hard for us - it doesn't make sense! The ribbons are tied to their hats. I wonder how they did this without becoming dizzy? Try this trick with a sibling...all you need is a see-saw and a partner who can jump on the other end for you!
This blog will be the story of my life here in South Korea where my family is working on developing family discipleship through homeschooling. The church we are serving with here is Global Mission Church which has about 20,000 members. I will be here until May 2008; the rest of the family will return home a few months after me. Since Judah is not here with us this year to work on our website, this is my attempt at sharing my stories and pictures. I hope you find it somewhat entertaining and that it will give you a taste of what it's like to be living in a very different culture!
(Sangmyong is the Korean word for "life.")
"We are all missionaries...Wherever we go, we either bring people nearer to Christ, or we repel them from Christ." -Eric Liddell "As long as I see any thing to be done for God, life is worth having; but O how vain and unworthy it is to live for any lower end." -David Brainerd "Here, there, anywhere and everywhere, wherever God likes to stir up your nest and fling you, disciple all the nations." -Oswald Chambers
